| Name: | Johann von Sturmgheist |
| Nature: | Neutral |
| Personality/Demeanor: | Decisive, Insightful, Loyal, Logical, Outgoing |
| Other Personality Details: | Johann is always a leader and he rarely takes the back-seat to anyone. He knows how to climb the social and political ladder to gain prestige and power and has many powerful friends in high places. He also gains rank in the army very quickly due to his natural ability to lead and the fact that he puts he life on the line in dangerous situations; fortunately he is only risking one life. He also has no problem deeming all allies expendable if they do not prove themselves to be worthy. This does not, however, mean that he is a disloyal friend. He will do whatever it takes to protect his good friends. |
| Limitations: |
Sometimes Johann sticks his neck out too far and ends up losing it (not literally or he would be dead for good). He sometimes climbs the ladder too fast and is seen as a threat and ends up getting temporarily killed.
If he believes he has failed his friends, or if one of his friends is killed, he becomes deeply depressed and will go nearly insane with anger and frustration. Sometimes this can last for up to a century before he gets over it and it plagues him for the rest of his life.
He is, of course, very callous and reckless with the lives of those he deems unworthy to be his ally which drives other Immortals, some of which could be promising allies, away. He doesn’t completely disregard human life. He only deems allies unworthy if they are “unchristian, barbaric, evil or treacherous scum, which should well be cast down into the pits of Hell.” Johann is devoutly religious which causes him to have many fights in bars over people saying things such as “God $@#% it!” It makes it very difficult for him to maintain a low profile as he is often arrested during these brawls. He was nearly killed once when an evil Hunter posing as a police officer attacked him while he was hand-cuffed. |

| History: |
210-0 BC -
Johann’s father, Friedrick, trained him in the art of war since he was 6 years old and also taught him Latin and Greek. At the age of 10 he killed a young Gothic soldier while defending his mother. She was killed by a stray arrow and he took out his anger on the dead body by lopping off his head and mutilating the body. The Goth was an immortal but sadly Johann could not get a Quickening because he had no had a first death yet.
When he reached the age of 15 he started going on raids in Gaulish river towns. When his village was incorporated into the Roman Empire, he eventually became a citizen of Rome and fought as auxiliary infantry with the Roman Legions. His first death was during a battle in Thrace but he did not discover other Immortals until a Roman Centurion by the name of Flavius Arterius sensed him. Flavius told him about being an Immortal, “the Game” and helped him tone his strength and taught him skills that would prevent him losing his head. 0-200 - Johann wandered around Judea and made a living by trading things he had gotten from raids in Greece. He had heard of a teacher called Jesus of Nazereth. He went through great pains to find him and listen to his many teachings. He converted to Christianity and after witnessing the death of Christ, he disowned the Romans. He joined and revolt of the Jews to vent his anger against the Romans and unfortunately brought about the temporary death of Flavius Arterius, his old mentor, as they were on opposite sides of the conflict. Johann fled and was grief-stricken from killing his friend. When Flavius revived, he was filled with rage and felt the Johann was a traitor and hunted him down. 200-400 - Johann tried to maintain a low profile and worked as a blacksmith. He tempered his short sword to make it stronger. In 398, his smithy was burnt down by Arterius and Johann tried to flee but was confronted by Flavius. Johann was surprised that his mentor would do such a thing and asked him why. Flavius said that Johann must pay for what he did and stabbed him in the stomach. Johann stumbled away from the fight and parried many more blows. He collapsed in the courtyard of the local temple, holy ground. His stomach healed up before anyone noticed him and the priest thought he was sick and after a few days of faking sick he left only to find Arterius waiting outside the gate. He fought his mentor but the student had not yet surpassed the master as Johann lost his balance during the frenzied movements and was almost defeated. The priest bashed the crazy mentor over the head with a stone and later asked Johann about the fight Johann had felt another Immortal was near but thought it was only Arterius. The priest was, in fact, a Pre-Immortal. The priest, named Rudolphus Angus, had no first death and no Immortal experience because he spent his life on holy ground. 400-600 - Johann trained Rudolphus and gave him his first death during training. Johann and his pupil became inseparable; they did everything together and were the best of friends. Their village was destroyed by barbarians in 432 and they set out to find a new life. The priest was a highly respected person who had friends in high places in the Roman hierarchy. This helped secure Johann another citizenship in Rome. He secured for himself a small plot of land and some slaves. He and his friend managed the small estate which grew slowly but steadily. Rudolphus came to learn that he was a great cultivator and Johann found that he was great at husbandry. They became renowned for their produce and horses. Johann made vast amounts of money by selling his steeds to nobility and the Roman cavalry. They came to own the largest estate in Northern Italy and people became suspicious when they neither aged nor eventually died. In response to this, they told the governor of the province that their inheritance should go to Titus Mangus (Johann) and Caissus Minus (Rudolphus). They staged a murder and laid low while their estate was being controlled by the government. They returned in a few years when no one who would recognize them was alive and, after paying the hefty tax, returned to their normal lives. They expanded the estate even more and decided to buy more slaves. Johann shrewdly bought slaves when he sensed their immortality and butchered them to get their Quickenings. He gained immense amounts of skill from this. 600-800 - Johann and Rudolphus decided to leave their estate and move to Germany. Their job was still husbandry but they sold horses to anyone, including many barbarian tribes. At this time Arterius had finally found them and, at that time being with the Goths, attacked Johann while his compatriots stole Johann’s horses. Rudolphus was temporarily killed. Johann knew he couldn’t defeat his old mentor so instead of attacking him, he slashed the door frame and ran while the thatched roof collapsed on Flavius. Johann dragged Rudolphus’ body into the woods and slung him over his horse and then mounted up, the horse being hidden from the barbarians, and rode in the general direction of a stream. When he reached the stream he rode in it to throw Flavius off his trail, but it didn’t work. Flavius pursued them with deadly efficiency and soon caught up to the warrior and his wounded companion. Wisely, Johann rode into the nearest village and hid in the local cemetery to protect himself and his unconscious friend. About an hour after the attack Rudolphus was finally coming-to. The villagers where amazed and thought the travelers were possessed since one had been dead and they came from the cemetery. They fought their way out of the city and, for years afterward, people of that village would not enter the cemetery alone. 800-1000 He beheaded a nobleman and with his Quickening and began to pass himself off as one. He became a powerful baron in Bavaria. He started the common practice of bribing public officials and started uprisings to gain power. He was killed by a mob of starving peasants. His friend, Rudolphus, who was posing as a nobleman, rescued him and they escaped to France. 1000-1200 - He moved back to Germany and joined Frederick Barbarossa and controlled vast amounts of land and troops and in southern Germany and Northern Italy. Later he went to the Holy Lands with Barbarossa on the Crusades and joined the Teutonic Knights. When Barbarossa was killed he abandoned the Crusades and the papacy requested his help in apprehending the Knight’s Templar. This was when he got his first taste of being a mercenary. He pretended to join the Knight’s Templar with his loyal friend at his side as usual. He cleverly led them into a trap and collected his payment while the betrayed traitors burned at the stake. 1200-1400 - He bought a plot of land in Normandy and built a grand château; he decided to settle down for a while and did practically nothing while his serfs grew grapes for wine. The wine was his only source of income but he got by fine during tax time and kept a little in his pocket. At this time Rudolphus had left Johann for the first time in almost 1,000 years. He was in France fighting in the army because he was too violent and energetic to live a slow life. Once he was temporarily killed in battle, Rudolphus went to Normandy to stay with Johann. 1400-1600 At this time Rudolphus wanted more action and the simple life was starting to bore Johann so they joined the Landesknecht mercenaries and fought in wars for other countries; mostly the English. They did things such as put down rebellions, fight the French, and fight in the Thirty Year’s War on the Protestant side. During his time with the Landesknechts, Johann befriended James Chuculainson, an Immortal from Ireland who had lived a mere 500 years less than him. They talked about wars, and rumors of wars and how they fought the good fight against the French. They were almost as good of friends as Rudolphus and he were. 1600-1800 In the 1600's Johann was thrown out of power and fled to the New World and started a large plantation in Pennsylvania. Fortunately he had a great deal of money left over from his old life to hire workers since he had changed his mind about slavery. Instead, he paid for the voyages of others in order to make them his indentured servants. He fought in the American Revolution during the battles of Saratoga, Breed’s Hill, and New York. He also sponsored the fledgling American Navy. After the war he donated money to the Continental Congress to help them pay off their debts. 1800-2000 He joined the Republican Party in the 1860s and contributed to Abraham Lincoln's campaign. He also fought in the Civil War with the 20th Maine Volunteers. He met Kilroy MacDaniel, a skilled sharpshooter who brought his own gun and refused the army standard issue. Kilroy trained Johann to be a sharpshooter, training far more valuable than anything he got form the army. Kilroy found out about Johann’s Immortality when his gun misfired and killed him and he stood up only minutes later. He made Kilroy swear to keep it a secret. Whether or not Kilroy would keep his promise did not matter because the next day, during the Battle of Gettysburg, he was killed. After the Civil War Johann went west and lived with the Lakota (Sioux) Indian tribe. He learned their hunting techniques and became fond of hunting big game. He also learned how to use herbs for healing. He joined the Cavalry and was killed in Little Big Horn but not before he could kill two Native American Immortals. (“The Lakota,” he was heard saying, “are truly batbaric heathens who have no regard for the kind treatment of civilians. I fell I must take it into my own hands to show them the error of their ways…through axample.” Fortunately there weren’t any other Immortals around but his rejuvenation took days because of the mutilating the Native Americans did to their enemies after death. Johann was found on the prairie by his friends, James and Randolph (Rudolphus) who had both wanted to see him again and had been helping each other track him for a full year. Because of the mutilation, Johann couldn’t see or walk well the day he rejuvenated but his friends helped him through that hard time. In 1965, Johann and his friends joined the military, all in different branches: Randolph, Air Force; James, Navy; and Johann, the Army. Shortly after being admitted to the Special Forces he further proved himself by making it into Delta Force. Three years later, in 1968, he got into an all-to-common bar fight over a man’s bad language. A Hunter under the guise of a police officer tried to slash Johann’s head. Johann skillfully lunged to the Hunter’s left, making it harder for the right handed man to slash him. Johann eventually wore him down and after a few seconds, he got behind the mortal and strangled him with his cuffs. In the 1980’s, he met a beautiful J.A.G. officer named Elizabeth Taylor and after a few months of courtship, they married. He moved many places since but always keeps in touch with his friends Randolph and James. Throughout the 1990s, Johann studied many foreign languages such as Russian and Arabic at Johns Hopkins University. In 2002, He returned to the military and the army immediately (In military terms which is about 9 months) restored him to his command. He has been with Delta Force ever since. |

Flavius Arterius has been unable to find Johann, but Johann has seen him at a safe distance and decided to move.
Johann’s team members’ discovered his Immortality and are sworn to secrecy. They discovered it when Marcus de Leeds killed him, his team member’s killed de Leeds, and Johann rejuvenated and beheaded de Leeds for a nice Quickening. Johann’s battle cry is “Gott mitt uns!”(God with us) |
